Monday was a day that dreams came true. Players from across the nation, even the world, realized this when their names were called during the 2010 Major League Baseball draft.
Lipka and Lee dominated the diamond at McKinney (TX) High. They were also standouts on the gridiron for the Lions.
Now both have a choice to make. Become a pro or play in college.
The Atlanta Braves drafted Lipka with their first pick in the draft. The shortstop hit .411 with 11 doubles, 8 triples, a .588 on-base percentage, and was 15 of 15 in stolen base attempts during his senior season. Lipka also had a very nice career on the football field as a wide receiver. However, the speedy shortstop made it known that baseball is his first love. He has committed to play baseball at the University of Alabama, so it will be interesting to see if he becomes a Brave or suits up for the Crimson Tide.
The Los Angeles Dodgers selected Lee as the 28th overall pick in the first round. Lee won 11 games during his senior season, with a 2.15 ERA and 90 strikeouts. He throws three different pitches for strikes, including an effective breaking ball and changeup.
Lee also played quarterback for McKinney, passing for 2,565 yards and 31 touchdowns. He has committed to play both sports at LSU.
What a choice to have. Play ball in the SEC or begin a pro career. No matter which road Lipka and Lee decide to take, the future looks bright for these young lions as their path to The Show begins.
