It was a back and forth contest with a tricky ending, and the luck of the Irish wasn’t enough to bring home the win.
Michigan State defended their home turf, scoring the game winning TD off a fake field goal in overtime for the 34-31 win over Notre Dame in what is possibly the best game of the year.
The loss was Notre Dame’s 2nd loss in 3 games this season, and their 2nd straight against the state of Michigan. They lost to the Wolverines in the final minutes last week.
Dayne Crist threw for 369 yards and 4 TD’s for the Irish, who now have to recover from another tough loss. The game seemed well on hand after Crist connected with Michael Floyd for the 24-yard score to put Notre Dame up 28-21. But the Irish defense couldn’t hold the Spartans when they needed to.
Just like last week, the Irish will need to leave this one in the rearview mirror and focus on yet another big game. They host #19 Stanford next weekend in South Bend.
At 1-2, this could be where the season is won or lost for the Irish. We’ll soon find out if they can turn their luck around.
