The 2 best teams throughout the summer meet up once again in what could be the biggest series of the season.
The New York Yankees and Tampa Bay Rays have traded places atop of the A-L East all year long. Now the Rays walk into Yankee Stadium for a 4-game set, a half-game off the lead with the Yanks ready to separate themselves from the rest of the pack.
Right now, it’s a safe bet that both teams are playoff bound. Boston is 6 and ½ out and struggling to stay afloat. The thing is both the Rays and Yankees haven’t been playing their best baseball lately either. The Bronx Bombers are 8-9 in the month of September, and the Rays are 8-8. However, little has changed in the standings.
That doesn’t take the shine off this week’s series. Your mound match-up for the 4 games:
Monday: Matt Garza (14-8, 3.88 ERA) vs Ivan Nova (1-0, 4.30 ERA)
Tuesday: James Shield (13-12, 4.86 ERA vs Phil Hughes (16-8, 4.31 ERA)
Wednesday: Wade Davis (12-9, 4.19 ERA) vs AJ Burnett (10-13, 5.08)
So your playoff preview is here, atmosphere and all. With only 2 weeks left in the season, the bright lights will be shining down on the Bronx.
Both teams are tough to beat on their home turf. With that being said, I’ll take the Yanks winning 3 of 4.
