ALDS: Rangers-Rays Preview

Rays-Rangers ALDS

It’s Time.

The 2010 baseball playoffs begin this week, and making a return after 11 years is the Texas Rangers. And we finally know who they will play. Clinching the A-L East on the last day of the season, the Tampa Bay Rays will host the Rangers in the American League Divisional Series.

Here is your mound match-up:

Game 1: Cliff Lee vs David Price

Game 2: CJ Wilson vs James Shields

Game 3: Matt Garza vs Colby Lewis

Game 4: Wade Davis vs Tommy Hunter *if necessary

Game 5: TBA *if necessary

Games 1 and 2 will be played at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida. The series then shifts to Arlington, Texas for Game 3 and possibly Game 4 if necessary. Game 5 will be back at the Trop, again if necessary.

The match-up in the first game may be the most intriguing, with a battle of lefties who have both been successful in playoff action. Lee threw well for the Phillies last year and Price busted onto the scene during the Rays playoff run 2 years ago.

Pitching will be the key in the series. Both teams have offenses that can explode at any time. Evan Longoria and Carlos Pena pace the Rays, while Josh Hamilton and Vladimir Guerrero lead the Rangers. Whoever can keep the opposing line-up at bay survives the first round.

This series is a push. Either way, it should be an entertaining one between the 2 division champs.
