Collegiate Baseball Newspaper has Coppell at No.1 in their preseason high school baseball poll. That’s some strong stuff. And speaking of stuff, what the pitching brings is a big reason for the preseason love.
The Cowboys have five pitchers that can bring it 90 MPH or better, two of which are planning on playing college ball in the metroplex: TCU commit RHP Charles King (6-0, 1.09 ERA, 47 K, 95 mph) and Dallas Baptist commit RHP Ray Gaither (7 SV, 0.41 ERA, 21 K, 96 mph). LHP John Kodros (1-0, 1.47 ERA, 91 mph) is ticketed to LSU. RHP Hayden Kettler (3-1, 1.07 ERA, 91 mph), and RHP Chris Burdine are staying in the Big 12, Kettler is joining Baylor and Burdine to Oklahoma State.
That’s right, five guys that throw 90-plus. Seriously? Good luck having to face that.
The Cowboys lost in the regional quarter finals last season, finishing at 25-6. They do return a team with 12 players who have been three-year starters.
Southlake Carroll is also in the Top 30 poll, coming in at 26th.
