Trip To Omaha On The Line For TCU and Texas A&M

It now comes down to a winner-take-all Game 3 Sunday night in the NCAA Super Regionals between TCU and Texas A&M for a trip to Omaha and the College World Series.

The Aggies, the national number four seed in the tournament, forced the issue by jumping out to an early lead and never looked back in their 7-1 win over the Horned Frogs in Game 2 Saturday.

Texas A&M leadoff hitter J.B. Moss took a 1-0 pitch from TCU starter Mitchell Traver and crushed it for a solo home run in the first. The Aggies would add on two more runs in the opening frame, basically setting the tone for the rest of the night.

Traver did settle down after that first inning and held the Aggies hitless until Jonathan Moroney homered in the sixth. TCU’s senior righty allowed five runs, three earned, while striking out four in 5 2/3 innings of work.

The Frogs offense could never really get anything going against Texas A&M starter Kyle Simonds, who allowed only one run in 7 2/3 innings with six strikeouts. The Aggies righty improved his record to 11-3 on the season.

This is not unfamiliar territory for TCU. The Frogs will play a Super Regional Game 3 for the third consecutive year, having won the previous two.

However, what is unfamiliar is playing it on the road. Both of those Super Regional wins were in Fort Worth, including last year’s 16-inning thriller against the Aggies. The Frogs are 3-1 overall in Super Regional Game 3’s. The one loss: 2009 at Texas.

So it all comes down to Sunday night in College Station, with a ticket to Omaha on the line. First pitch is scheduled for 8 p.m.
