Horschel Wins Final Byron Nelson In Irving

It was only fitting the final Byron Nelson in Irving would go into a playoff round.

When it was all said and done, Billy Horschel walked away the winner at TPC Four Season Las Colinas, defeating Jason Day on the first hole of the playoff.

Neither could break the tie on the 72nd hole, so they returned to 18. Day’s birdie putt rolled four feet past the hole. Horschel almost made his 19-footer, needing only to tap in for par. Day’s par putt stayed left of the hole.

“It’s a little disappointing but it’s not the first tournament I’m going to lose,” said Day. “I’ve got to try to get better from this experience and I feel good about my game.”

For Horschel, the win snapped a 30-month winless streak. He missed the cut in his only two previous starts at the Byron Nelson.

“I was not a fan of this golf course the first two times I came here and then I come here and I was like, ‘wow, why did I not like this course?’” said Horschel.  “This course really fits my game from tee to green.”

Third-round leader James Hahn finished a stroke back. He just missed a chance at an eagle on No. 18 that would have gotten him in the playoff.

The playoff ended the Byron Nelson’s 35th and final tournament in Irving. The event will now move to Trinity Forest Golf Club, a new links-style course in Dallas.
