Tyson Ross Could Join Rangers’ Rotation This Week

The debut of pitcher Tyson Ross in a Texas Rangers uniform appears to be happening this week.

Manager Jeff Banister said the expectation is that the next start for Ross will be in the majors. Now the question is when that will be.

Wednesday in Houston could be a possibility. That would allow Andrew Cashner and Martin Perez to get two extra says of rest before their next start due to the off-day on Thursday.

The numbers were not impressive for Ross during his rehab stint at Triple-A Round Rock. On Friday, he allowed 10 hits and eight runs in five innings. Overall, Ross was 2-1 with a 7.71 ERA in four starts as he tries to get back in the groove after undergoing thoracic outlet surgery during the offseason. The righty also dealt with back spasms in April. The most important part of his trip to Round Rock had nothing to do with stats but finding a rhythm and delivery. The Rangers felt that was accomplished.

The hope was that Ross would be ready to go as early as Sunday against the Nationals. Instead, they went with Austin Bibens-Dirkx and will either go with Nick Martinez or Dillon Gee on Tuesday against the Astros.

Ross was signed by the Rangers to a one-year deal during the offseason.
